Why You’ll Fall in Love with Pai, Thailand
There’s something special about Pai, a little mountain town about three hours north of Chiang Mai.
Mae Yen WaterfallsI added it to my six-week northern Thailand adventure, which also took me through Bangkok and Chiang Mai, each stop offering something completely different. Pai’s mix of laid-back charm, mountain views, and adventure made it one of my favourites.
The drive itself is half the fun (762 winding bends through jungle-covered mountains), and by the time you arrive, you’ll feel like you’ve discovered your own piece of northern Thailand magic.
I spent two weeks soaking up everything Pai has to offer. Mornings started with coffee and yoga overlooking the rice fields, days filled with exploring Pai Canyon, swimming under waterfalls, and floating lazily down the river on a tube. I climbed the steep stairs to the White Buddha for stunning views over the valley, and spent evenings wandering through Pai Walking Street, sampling every local dish I could find, including the tofu fish stick from a street vendor who quickly became my new best friend.

What makes Pai so unique is its atmosphere. It’s small enough to feel local, but full of life. Whether you’re chasing adventure, culture, or relaxation, Pai truly has something for everyone.
